Starbucks took legal action against its Workers Union when they expressed solidarity with Palestine on social media shortly after October 7th. Starbucks is currently in its sixth straight quarter of sales declines.

Starbucks workers at unionized locations are also on strike as of November 13 and are calling on all of us to not give Starbucks our business at all stores. They are demanding better hours to improve staffing in their stores, higher take home pay, and resolutions to the hundreds of outstanding unfair labor practice charges for union busting.

Google is a part of Project Nimbus, a $1.2 billion contract with the Israeli military, providing them with the web services they need to mass surveil and target Palestinians. These services store and process data that is used for facial recognition, emotion recognition, biometrics and demographic information.

AI is being used in Gaza to determine targets with little to no human intervention. Based on the targets determined by AI, the Israeli military is willing to kill 10 to 20 civilians for a “low-level” target and up to 100 for a leadership level target. In 2025, Google dropped their pledge to not use AI for potentially harmful applications, including weapons and surveillance. While no specific AI’s creation has been tied to Google yet, the infrastructure of Project Nimbus facilitates the operation of these models.

It is hard to completely avoid Google, but any small change helps. Some of the alternatives include Firefox, DuckDuckGo or Ecosia.
